Happy New Year

Today in Sunday School, we studied the last lesson of the year on the New Testament lessons. Of course, it was on the Book of Revelations. Our teacher is very well versed on this subject as he has made it a matter of personal study for many years. When I hear people who know a lot about things that I feel like I should know more about, I feel like George Castanza on Seinfeld who wondered, "How do you become a buff?" Of course, the answer is obvious, I need to read and study more about the things that I would like to understand better. It seems like life always gets in the way of my doing that. I try to read my scriptures daily, but that doesn't really entail studying in a way that would help me be a "buff." There are people who have made comments to me that they think I am a scriptorian, but the truth of the matter is I have just retained a lot of information over the years, but not as much as I should have, nor is my understanding as great as it should be. I was once the Gospel Doctrine teacher, and I learned so much during that time because I had to prepare to teach it to others. That period of time in my life must have misled people into thinking that I am more knowledgeable than I am. I think that one of my resolutions this year will be to find time to study and not just to read the scriptures.

On another subject, tomorrow night we are going to our friend's house for a New Year's Eve Karaoke Party. It will be so much fun! Happy New Year Everyone!!

The Day After Christmas

There is something very thrilling about going to your blog and finding that someone has posted a comment. Updating, however, can be difficult. I tried to update three times on Christmas Eve, but kept running into errors on the computer. I finally gave up.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas. It was so nice at our house to have all of the kids home (except for Tyler of course) and we were able to spend the day playing new games, watching new movies and just being together. We were able to talk to Tyler on the phone on Christmas Eve. That was terrific. He thinks he will be home on March 7. That is only about 2 months away. So, given the fact that time flies by faster and faster, He will be here in no time.

Jacob received a basketball net and basketball for Christmas. Glen set it up for him on Christmas day. We had a lot of fun playing jungle basketball together with him. I will have to do it more often because my body finds it very benficial I think.

Today, the day after Christmas, never feels quite as good as the Christmas itself. There are messes to clean up. I am sick of the food, the sweets and the heaviness. (More basketball!) Yet, no one feels like doing anything. These are the days that I wish I was a genie. If I looked like Barbara Eden, that would be okay, too.

Lindsey took pictures of Chrismas morning for us. As soon as she sends them to me from her computer, I will post them. Until them, Happy Day After Christmas to all!

Short Update

I am still trying to learn the ins and outs of blogging. I think that while Alicia and Linsdey are home they will have to teach me how to do certain things. For instance, I want to create links to my favorite bloggers, but I tried and failed for some reason. So, if you haven't heard from me yet, it is because I am still learning how to maneuver on this site.

Some of you have asked about my old blog. I didn't have one. You may be referring to Madalynn's blog. She used my email to make her own blog a few months ago. It is cute, but not me. We now have two blogs on this one email, so I hope we don't get them confused.

Glen called last night shortly before 8:00. He was in Provo safe and sound. He said to me, "We had to drive through about 3 heavy snowstorms." I asked him why he had spoken in the third person, was he referring to the truck and himself? He told me that he had picked up a hitchhiker in the middle of a storm. After reviving myself from fainting, I asked him what he was thinking. He said that he felt he couldn't leave him out in the snow. The man turned out to be a 35 year old man on his way to Salt Lake from Las Vegas. His truck had broken down and was being towed to a shop to be picked up later. He was still trying to get to Salt Lake. His wife had recently died and he had a little boy. The little boy was with grandma in Las Vegas. Glen told me that the guy had just come up to the freeway on the off ramp when Glen saw him. He was a pretty distraught and lost individual. Glen felt like the Lord wanted him to pick him up, and he taught him about the Plan of Salvation as they drove to Provo over a couple of hours. It is neat story. I am looking forward to hearing more about it when they all get home tonight. I can tell that Glen feels like this was a remarkable experience. I am so blessed.

I have finally begun!

When my good friend Ruth started a blog, I decided it was finally time for me to get one, instead of being a passive blog reader. I would make the occasional comment, but I told my girls that I was going to stop that. Of course, I have only been mildly succesful in that promise because when I have strong feelings about something, I can't help but express them.

Today, Glen has departed for Utah to go and bring the girls home for Christmas. Of course, my worst fears have come about and it is snowing up there. But, he rented a 4x4 truck to go up in, so that is comforting. I will be happy when we are all safe at home together.

I will add pix and so forth later. I need a new battery for the digital camera.

I have just ended a long term substitute teaching assignment for a second grade class. For some reason, this has been one of the most stressful assignments I've had. That is saying a lot since last year I started the year teaching one quarter of 2nd grade, then a quarter of LD, and ended with a quarter of 5th grade. But, this class has one very difficult LD child in it, and one really mean parent of another difficult child. But, yesterday was my last day. I was singing "The Hallelujah Chorus" at the end of the day. It is strange though, I also feel a little sad about leaving all of the other kids who were very sweet. I hope that I didn't ruin there lives too much by teaching something incorrectly. I did my best. It was fun doing all of the holiday activities with them. And, just to reassure you, we studied Christmas Around the World. We made a creche for France and learned to sing "Noel" and we talked about what "Kristkind" literally means in Germany, even though she is a girl. We discussed what the posadas is in Mexico and what happened when there was no room at the inn and when the baby Jesus is put into the manger. Anyway, what I am saying is that Christ isn't totally gone from Christmas in the public school system in Arizona.

Well, I still have a lot to do to get ready for Christmas. Working at this time of year really puts me behind. So, I am off for now. Merry Christmas everyone!
